The Pepsi Challenge
Three and half cases (36 bottles) of amazing Zinfandel!
The Pepsi Challenge is an ongoing marketing promotion run by PepsiCo since 1975. Originally a taste test at shopping malls, Pepsi representatives set up a table with two blank cups each containing two colas. Pepsi maintained that the results of the test reliably favored the upstart Pepsi over the established Coca-Cola. "Heresy!" collectively screamed many loyal devotees of the Southern beverage. The battle and controversy have raged since.
Here is your chance to create your own Pepsi Challenge, but with world class wine! This lot offers three well known and respected Zinfandels - Turley, Ravenswood and Linne Calodo.
Turley has long been considered one of the best Zinfandel's made in America and currently has a multi-year waiting list for new recipients into their wine club. Ravenswood, known for not making "wimpy wines," is widely popular and beloved since its introduction in 1979. Linne Calodo, is the "new kid" on the block. Made just down the street from Turley, it has been spinning the wine critic's heads since it wine the wine scene. Robert Parker calls this the only "true cult zinfandel" made in America!
Brown bag them up, and have your own Pepsi Challenge tonight with this 2 ½ case spectacular lot!

The 1%
Live like the 1% with this lot, featuring exclusive experiences at some of America's top cult wines that are not open to the public: Harlan, Peter Michael and Rudd Estate, as well as a helicopter tour of Napa Valley and a stay at a wine country mansion!
This lot includes:
Private Tour and Tasting for six (6) with Master Sommelier Jason Heller at Harlan Estate
Private Tour and Tasting for six (6) at Peter Michael Winery
Private Tour and Tasting for six (6) at Rudd Winery
Two Magnums of 2006 Rudd Oakville Estate
One Hour Helicopter Tour of Napa Valley
Two night stay at Lynmar's Bliss House - A 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath home in Sonoma
In 1984, Bill Harlan, a real estate developer, purchased 230 acres in Oakville. It was a heavily forested area with steep hillsides and not immediately an obvious place to grow wine. Yet, his stated intent on purchasing the land was an ambition to "create a first growth wine."
Not even twenty years later, most would agree he had succeeded, as his wines are consistently rated with perfect scores and while released at $250/bottle, they are only available to the public on auction, usually ranging from $500-2,000 a bottle. A 10-vintage vertical of magnums sold at the 2000 Napa Valley Wine Auction for a staggering $700,000!
With this lot, you and five others will be guests on a private tour and tasting with Master Sommelier Jason Heller, sampling wines and getting a behind-the-scenes view of wines only the special elite can typically afford.
Similarly, Sir Peter Michael, already English royalty, in 1982 established Peter Michael Winery on a square mile of rocky volcanic ridges in Sonoma County. His goal was to create a terroir-focused wine of elegance rather than power, with a stated "hundred-year commitment to the development of a great estate." He also succeeded, with wines sold only to insiders on "the list," but this is the opportunity for you and five others to tour the property and taste their flagship wines.
This lot also includes a trip to Rudd, whose flagship wines are only sold to insiders and which routinely achieve high ratings. There, you'll not only get a private tour and tasting of their cult wines but a four-course lunch, matched with Rudd Estate wines by their in-house winery chef. Best of all, you'll walk away with two magnums of the 2006 Rudd Oakville Estate Red Wine!
As if visits to these exclusive cult wineries weren't enough, you and two others will experience a one-hour flight helicopter tour of Napa Valley, exploring countless wineries from the air with this unique opportunity to witness the spectacular views of the vineyards and properties from high above.
So that you do not have to retreat back to the city, this lot includes a two night stay for six guests at Lynmar Estate's Bliss House, a command center and getaway worthy of the most ambitious world-takers.
Located on Lynmar's majestic 100-acre property, surrounded by 360 degree views of the vineyards, organic vegetable gardens and wildflowers, the Bliss House is the perfect retreat. Showcasing spectacular views of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the habitat to over 200 varieties of birds, this gracious 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath home is perfect for a romantic get-a-way or a base from which to explore Wine Country and devise your best world-conquering plans.
After world class seclusion, accommodations, and restful sleep, start day two of your affair with a picnic lunch and garden tour of the gorgeous Lynmar Estate, producer of premium-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Value: $15,000
Details: Valid up to one year from auction for mutually agreed upon dates and three months advance notice; Peter Michael visit for Friday only.
The Guardsmen wish to thank Rob Landsness, Peter Michael Winery, Rudd Winery, Lynmar Estate, Sonoma Helicopter (Barry Chambers), and Harlan Estate for their generous donations.

That allocation list is made up of only 600 people. So if you want to try to taste the wine, you need to have a friend who already gets it. Or buy it at an auction like this one!

Mineral Bath
An incredible 20-bottle collection of White Burgundy treasure!
Chablis and Meursault are both wine districts of Burgundy and highlighted by the wines listed below. Virtually every vine grown in these regions are Chardonnay, but the cool climate and vintner practices yield wines that are much more tart and crisp than the soft, buttery Chardonnays more frequently found in the United States and other New World wine-growing regions.
These wines often have a mineral overtone, often described as "flinty," "slatey," or "steely." Although many of these wines receive some time in oak barrels, typically the time in the barrel and the proportion of new barrels (which give more flavor than used barrels) is much less than for other Chardonnay. As a result, these wines are mineral-driven with better acidity and lower alcohol.
This particular collection comes from an avid collector who is meticulous in picking the absolute best that Chablis and Meursault have to offer. This lot represents an amazing horizontal survey of the region, sampling several different vineyards within the same vintage. Once you go Chablis you may never go back!

The Gold Rush
Get your modern day gold rush with over three cases of wine from this year's participating pouring wineries! Here, we've put together a sampling of some of the best of wine of California from our generous winery partners who make this event happen.
Nearly three-quarters the size of France, California accounts for nearly 90% of entire American wine production. California production, alone, is one third larger than that of all of Australia. If California were a separate country, it would be the world's fourth-largest wine producer.
California's viticultural history dates back to the 18th century when Spanish missionaries planted the first vineyards to produce wine for Mass. Following a wine renaissance in the mid-20th century, Californian wine entered the international stage at the 1976 Judgment of Paris wine competition when Californian wines beat out French wines in both red and white wine categories. Today there are more than 1,200 wineries in the state, ranging from small boutique wineries to large corporations with distribution across the globe.

Fort Knox
A wine fridge, two cases of wine, and a terrific winery visit!
In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102, which outlawed the private ownership of gold coins, gold bullion and gold certificates by American citizens, forcing them to sell these to the Federal Reserve. As a result, the value of the gold held by the Federal Reserve increased from $4 billion to $12 billion between 1933 and 1937. This left the federal government with a large gold reserve and no place to store it. In 1936, the U.S. Treasury Department began construction of the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox, Kentucky, on land transferred from the military.
Today, the United States Bullion Depository, aka "Fort Knox," holds over 5,000 tons of gold bullion, which is roughly 2.5% of all the gold ever refined throughout human history. That's a lot of gold.
This lot gives you the chance to create your own Fort Knox, though protecting something much more important than gold bullion: wine! Featured in this package is a U-Line Wine Captain, with a capacity of up to 48 bottles and the U-Line unique Triple Zone temperature system, which allows for storing different wines at different temperatures. There is a touch pad digital control that provides easy command center view, and racks made of solid, trimmed beech wood. A must have for anyone wanting to age and preserve their wines!
We'll even throw in two cases of wine to get you started!
Finally, with your wine safe and secure at home, feel free to travel worry-free and enjoy a two night stay at VML Winery. The quaint cottage, located on the winery's picturesque property in Healdsburg, overlooks VML's organic gardens and includes amenities such as a queen size bed, adjoining bathroom, kitchenette and sitting area. You'll arrive to two bottles of VML wine waiting for you, to be enjoyed during your stay. You'll also have a chance to taste the VML wines, elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley.
Value: $3000
The Guardsmen wish to thank Purcell Murray and VML Winery for their generous donation. VML cottage stay expires one year from issue, subject to availability.

A culinary trip in Paris!
This lot includes:
Round-trip coach class airfare for two (2) to Paris from anywhere in the Lower 48 that American Airlines flies;
Five-night stay at Le Royal Monceau, a luxury Raffles Hotel property located just minutes from the famous Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Elysees;
Daily breakfast for two (2)
Choice of experience at the world famous at Le Cordon Bleu
-either a 2-hour Parisian market tour followed by a 2½-hour cooking demonstration, a 6-hour hands-on culinary workshop for two, or a six hour demo and workshop featuring techniques that Julia Child created during her time at Le Cordon Bleu
California Cuisine, pioneered by Alice Waters at nearby Chez Panisse and mastered by other famous chefs around the country, has become almost as famous as California wines. The French Laundry, in Yountville, is routinely considered the best restaurant in America. Restaurant Gary Danko, Benu, Coi, Saison and many other Bay Area Restaurants now regularly appear at the top of the annual Michelin guides. The use of fresh, in-season produce, artisanal cheeses and local dairies to produce simple, elegant dishes with a strong attention to presentation has become a hallmark of the California culinary experience.
However, while such cuisine has been perfected in California, its roots go back to France, and we perhaps have the famous Julia Child to thank for initially introducing it to America. Her cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and subsequent television programs paved the way for the California Cuisine that is now so ubiquitous among top restaurants.
This is your chance to go back to the roots of our cuisine, walk in Julia's footsteps and visit the famous Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France! Bon Appetit!

Old Ironsides
A vertical of magnums (2002-2007) of Shafer Hillside Select!
"Old Ironsides" is wooden-hulled, three-masted, 44-gun US Navy frigate and the oldest commissioned warship afloat. This amazing vessel was named during a valiant battle against HMS Guerriere during the War of 1812. During the battle, to the astonishment of the British crew, many of their cannon shots rebounded harmlessly off Constitution's hull. An American sailor reportedly exclaimed: "Huzzah! Her sides are made of iron!" And thus the USS Constitution was forever known.
Like Old Ironsides, Shafer Hillside Select is an American Classic - tough, independent, and spectacularly amazing. It is a true giant among American cabernets. The wine experts agree:
"Shafer, of course, has been one of Napa's most reliable wineries, routinely producing great wines, chief among them its Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet from Stags Leap." James Laube, Wine Spectator
"one of the New World's most profound Cabernet Sauvignons"
Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
Hillside Select is made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit sourced from rugged hillside vineyard blocks on Shafer's Stags Leap District Estate. A "wine of a place," Shafer's Hillside Select Cabernets exemplify the extraordinary richness and suppleness consistently produced in their valley within a valley. Hillside Select is aged a full four years prior to release (three years in Alliers and Troncais oak barrels and one year in the bottle).
After winning this six bottle, 2002-2007 vertical, in extremely rare magnum format, you'll feel as invulnerable as Old Ironsides herself!

A four night vacation to Whistler!
Some mockingly refer to Canada as our "Great National Park to the North," and while presumably most Canadians would bristle at such a suggestion, there is no doubting the country's natural beauty and vast landscapes. Hiking, fishing, skiing, golfing and even drinking wine are common activities for residents and visitors alike.
Among the most famous resorts in Canada, and home to many events from the most recent Winter Olympiad, Whistler has long captivated outdoor enthusiasts with its activities and ideal location, nestled at the foot of Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains.
With this lot, you'll enjoy:

Manifest Destiny
Take home one massive double magnum from the collective winegrowers of the Oakville AVA, two extremely rare Detert magnums from the fabulous 2008 vintage, and a VIP afternoon with the Detert proprietors.
H. W. Crabb turned Oakville from untamed country to wine country after his 1868 purchase of 240 acres close to the Napa River. Crabb established a vineyard and winery naming it To Kalon, which in Greek means "the beautiful." By 1877 Crabb had planted 130 acres and was producing 50,000 gallons of wine per year. Formally declared a Napa appellation in 1993, there are currently 24 wineries and over 5,000 acres of vineyard located in the Oakville AVA.
The Oakville Winegrowers, Oakville, The Oakville Cuvee 2007 3000ml (1)

Rocky I
A case of premium Brunello Montalcino from the greatest vintage in Tuscany's history!
Rocky, the story of Rocky Balboa. The rags to riches American dream story. The uneducated but kind-hearted debt collector who gets a shot to be the heavyweight champion of the world. The Italian Stallion.
While Rocky Balboa is the Hollywood Italian Stallion, Montalcino is home to the original Itallian Stallions. While historically Barolo and Amarone were more sought after, Brunello di Montalicino has made its own rags-to-riches story and is now among the heavyweights of Italian wine. Two recent powerhouse vintages, 2006 and 2007, have engendered a renewed interest in the wines, which are 100% Sangiovese, but the wines from Montalcino, a small town within Tuscany, have been premier age-worthy wines for decades.
Possessing the finesse of a Pinot Noir and the power of a Cabernet, in good vintages these wines can stand up to any in the world and their ability to pair well with food is unmatched. Sometimes tannic when young, as they age they maintain their rich flavor while also acquiring a silky elegance.
The 1997 vintage was amazing for all of Italy, and in particular, Montalcino. It was a hot and dry year, but not to any extreme, so the vintage produced balanced and rich wines. Now 25 years after the grapes were picked from the vines, these wines are at their peak and are a true joy to drink either by themselves or with your favorite meal.
Altesino is among the most prestigious wine producers in Montalcino and their Montosoli bottling represents a special 5-hectare vineyard to the northeast of the winery, whose grapes are harvested and fermented separately due to their character and complexity.
This is your opportunity to acquire time-in-a-bottle and own a whole case of this highly sought after King of Montalcino.

Ever wanted to show off your largest wine assets? These three examples of some of America and France's most delicious wines are exceedingly rare. Bring these towering titans to your next special occasion!
Juslyn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain Estate 2006 1.5 liters (1)
Talk about "Coming to America" - Since it was established by two British ex-patriots, Juslyn Vineyards has made a name for itself on Spring Mountain. Having received 90+ points in every vintage for the past 10 years, this wine is a true American success!
Robert Parker 95: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain is one of the great successes for mountain Cabernets. Made from 100% estate fruit, it displays a dense purple color along with a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, blue and black fruits, and graphite. …. This is a strikingly graceful, elegant Cabernet with considerable flavor intensity. It should evolve for 15-20 years.
Roth Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 2005 6 liters (1)
Roth Estate is a family-owned winery dedicated to crafting full-flavored wines grown in exemplary Sonoma County vineyards. Nestled in the southern reaches of Alexander Valley, Roth's home vineyard is comprised of gentle rolling hills. The low-vigor, volcanic-based soil shapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines of intensity, depth and concentration. This is classic California Cabernet!
Domaine de la Solitude, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007 6 liters (1)
Domaine de la Solitude is one of Chateauneuf's oldest estates - the first estate bottled their wine in 1815! Over the last ten years, Domaine de la Solitude wines have gone from strength to strength, and are now some of the finest of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
Robert Parker 93: "The deeply-colored 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre aged 80% in tank and 20% in small barrels. The 2007 is the finest traditional Chateauneuf since the glorious 1967. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a sensational perfume of kirsch, cassis liqueur, plums, licorice, roasted herbs, and meat juices. Seriously endowed, full-bodied, broad, savory, and layered, this is a huge, rich, massive wine…. A sleeper of the vintage, it is one of the region's best bargains if measuring dollars per points.

American Dream
A Private Wine Dinner, Wine Tasting and Tour at Caspar Estate for 8 people with Executive Chef Tim Mosblech. Included in your lot is Magnum of 2009 Caspar Estate.
Caspar Escher had the vision to purchase land in the Napa Valley in 1962. Caspar's grandchildren, Jody Harris and Gingy Harris Gable, now organically farm what has become Caspar Estate.
Caspar Estate, located on a picturesque hillside overlooking the Napa Valley, is a private family retreat. Passed down through the generations, it is both a getaway and working organic vineyard, in Rutherford, about 600 feet above the fog line with northeastern exposure.
You and your seven guests will stroll through the old olive grove, walk the rocky vineyard, and see honeybees at work. Then stop at the family home, sit on the patio, and savor the bounty of the land - Caspar's finest wine, organic olive oil and wildflower honey - while enjoying the view of Napa Valley.
Later that evening, enjoy dinner for eight (8) with Chef Timothy Mosblech. Rising quickly through the ranks at Chez Henri in Cambridge, MA, he became enamored with the intensity and creativity of the kitchen. Looking to broaden his knowledge, Mosblech moved westward landing a Sous Chef position at Patina in Los Angeles. The bounty of California helped focus his food philosophy as he went on to work under Michelin starred chefs Laurent Gras (The Fifth Floor) and Daniel Patterson (Coi) in San Francisco. Kitchen stints in Spain, Germany and France, as well as a few grape harvests, have rounded out his career. Ever passionate about food, wine and the people that make it all possible, Timothy is always ready to be a part of the next great culinary adventure.
To make sure the evening is as magical as the day, this lot also includes one magnum of the 2009 Caspar Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
Value: $2,500
